About Alexander Munro
Broker of Record · Licensed Builder · University of Michigan
Broker and owner of Munro Real Estate & Development, based in Ypsilanti. We represent buyers and sellers across Southeast Michigan — homes, condos, land, and commercial property.
Separately, on the re-development side: renovation, mixed-use, and rental management in downtown Ypsilanti. Builder's license since 2017, FAA Part 107 (sUAS / "drone pilot") since 2020.
Started in real estate in 2012 at RE/MAX Crossroads II in Belleville, near the bottom of the housing market. The early years were heavy on distressed work.
From there: the Charles Reinhart Company in Ann Arbor, then Vision Realty Centers — where my mom and I worked as a small team. By the time Munro Real Estate & Development opened as an independent brokerage in 2016, the career had run through the largest firm in town, in state, and in the country.
Some of the most useful lessons came from boutique professionals — attorney-trained agents, often unknown outside the trade, operating with a quiet confidence. Their deals move smoothly because they've handled every edge case. Things like: how to spot and correct a defective appraisal, or what to do when a buyer's survey shows the parcel to be several acres larger than the seller and public records thought it was, after the contract is already signed. (If that one's of professional interest, email me.)
2016 was also the year of a first redevelopment project: just under 10,000 square feet across 10 shops and apartments.
Clients have run the full range over the years — landscapers and clerks to attorneys and judges. The work travels across price points, across counties, and across motivations.
University of Michigan, class of 2010, B.A. History with a minor in Crime & Justice — plus a brief postgrad study under Prof. George Siedel at Ross. His free Successful Negotiation course on Coursera is the first resource I'd recommend for the business side of this work, or skip to his concepts applied to my industry.
On the civic side: the Ypsilanti Police Advisory Commission and the MLS Committee at GMAR's Ann Arbor chapter.
Off the clock: Kennedy Munro (German Shepherd), his wife Marilyn (Pyrenees-Husky mix), public records requests, and history podcasts.
